Wall's Baine Jenschke Signs with the U.S. Naval Academy
WALL, TX — Friends, family, teammates, and coaches gathered in Wall's gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon to witness and celebrate Baine Jenschke's signing with the U.S. Naval Academy to continue his athletic career playing rugby.
"It's exciting to finally get to this point," Jenschke said at the signing. "It's great to see family, friends, teaches, and reporters that came out and helped me along the way. So, yeah, super excited."
Jenschke, an integral piece to the 3A's state champion and best offensive line, decided to make the switch to Rugby after talking to the coaching staff in Annapolis earlier this year. While similar, Rugby presents a unique challenge to the all-state offensive tackle, who admitted to having little background in the sport. However, it's what comes with playing rugby for the U.S. Navy that ultimately drove his decision.
Jenschke said that it had always been his dream to be part of something bigger than himself, and that he wants a career in the United States Military—playing sports is just a bonus.
"I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something that was bigger than myself," Jenschke said. "I know I'm just one person, but when you get a lot of people who want to do something bigger than themselves, you can really make a difference."
Jenschke committed to four years at the Naval Academy and five years of military service with his decision.
As for future goals he is working towards, Jenschke said that he wants to be a pilot and fly F-18's for the Navy. He has a long road ahead, but with his work ethic and natural abilities, no one should be surprised when he achieves his goals.
