Angelo State Heads to Austin on 3-Game Win Streak
SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State will look to build on its recent momentum when it travels to Austin for a four-game Lone Star Conference series against St. Edward’s beginning Thursday.
The Rams (23-11) open the series at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The teams will play a seven-inning game Friday at noon, another seven-inning contest Saturday at 3 p.m., and conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last time out, Angelo State rebounded from a 14-inning loss in the series opener to win the final three games against Texas A&M-Kingsville last weekend at home.
Pitching improved across the series, with Luke Spencer striking out seven over 5⅓ innings in the opener. Isaac Godard and Nick Gray each provided six innings on Saturday, helping preserve the bullpen for a 16-10 win in the finale.
At the plate, Tate Greene led the Rams with a .438 batting average. Brett Smajstrla hit .417 with a 1.083 slugging percentage, recording a home run, two triples and a double. Blake Wilhoite added a .400 average and a team-high .700 on-base percentage.
Scouting Report: St. Edward's
Angelo State leads the all-time series 28-7 and went 7-1 against St. Edward’s in 2025, including a four-game sweep in the postseason.
St. Edward’s enters the weekend 20-13 overall, including an 11-4 record at home. The Hilltoppers have struggled recently, dropping seven of their last nine games.
Offensively, St. Edward’s bats .310 as a team and averages 8.63 runs per game, ranking fifth in the Lone Star Conference. The Hilltoppers are among the league leaders in walks and on-base percentage.
Connor Cox leads the lineup with a .386 batting average, a .536 on-base percentage, and a .711 slugging percentage, along with seven home runs, 12 doubles and 41 RBIs.
On the mound, St. Edward’s has a 6.82 team ERA. Connor Freeman leads the staff with a 4-1 record and a 4.35 ERA over 41⅓ innings in nine starts.
