Angelo State Belles Host UT Tyler to Begin Post Season
SAN ANGELO, TX — The postseason has arrived, and the Angelo State women’s soccer team will open the Lone Star Conference Tournament at home on Monday, Nov. 10, hosting UT Tyler in a quarterfinal matchup at 7 p.m. inside the LeGrand Soccer Complex.
The Rambelles (9-4-5 overall, 8-3-3 LSC) enter as the fourth seed after a strong regular season built on balance, depth, and one of the stingiest defenses in the conference.
Angelo State wrapped up the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Texas A&M International, where Graycen Rasmussen netted the team’s final goal of the campaign. The Rambelles have relied on a deep and dynamic roster, featuring 10 different goal scorers this year, including Sanai Stewart (7 goals), Abby James, Emily Thames, Christiana Clark, Carley Martinez, Whitni Newbill, Graycen Rasmussen, Wrilyn Shippey, Jillian Greaves, and Lexi Gonzales.
Stewart, one of the LSC’s top offensive threats, led the team in goals while James finished tied for second in the conference with seven assists. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Melyna Martinez anchored the Belles with a 0.625 goals-against average, ranking third in the league, and a conference-best 10 shutouts.
The Rambelles’ back line, led by senior captain Harper Saxon and All-American Christiana Clark, helped ASU finish third in the LSC in goals allowed (12).
Angelo State leads the all-time series 4-0-1, including a 1-0 victory earlier this season on Oct. 15. The two programs have built a competitive rivalry in recent years, but ASU has yet to lose to the Patriots since UT Tyler joined the conference.
The UT Tyler Patriots (10-2-5 overall, 7-2-5 LSC) enter the tournament as the fifth seed. Their offense is led by Ella Anderson and Melissa Oliveira, each with six goals, while Anderson and Marin Love share the team lead with four assists.
Defensively, UT Tyler has been formidable, posting nine shutouts this season behind the trio of goalkeepers Peyton Roberts, Robbi Curry, and Emily Clark.
The winner of Monday’s matchup will advance to the LSC Tournament semifinals, where they’ll face the highest remaining seed. For Angelo State, the contest offers a chance to continue its postseason momentum and defend its home turf in front of the San Angelo faithful.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the LeGrand Soccer Complex, with tickets and streaming information available at angelosports.com.
