PREVIEW: Rambelles' Soccer Faces Two Key LSC Matchups this Weekend
SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State women’s soccer team will close out its home slate on Wednesday evening when the Rambelles host UT Dallas at the LeGrand Soccer Complex, before traveling to face Texas A&M International on Saturday in Laredo.
UT Dallas vs. Angelo State
- Wednesday, Oct. 29 – 5:30 p.m.
- LeGrand Soccer Complex, San Angelo
- Military Appreciation Day: Active-duty military personnel, veterans, retirees, and their dependents will receive free admission with valid military ID.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Comets enter the match 11-2-2 overall and 8-2-1 in conference play. Forward Gabby Thompson leads the team with 12 goals and shares the team lead in assists with five. UTD has had seven different players score this season.
Angelo State at Texas A&M International
- Saturday, Nov. 1 – 7 p.m.
- Dustdevil Soccer Field, Laredo
Angelo State leads the all-time series 9-1-1, including a 1-0 win last season on Oct. 9, 2024. The Dustdevils are 3-8-3 overall and 2-7-2 in conference action, led by Julissa Gonzalez with two goals and Rosa Caird with three assists. Eight different players have found the net for TAMIU this season.
The Rambelles enter the week with an 8-3-4 overall record and a 7-2-2 mark in Lone Star Conference play, sitting among the league’s top teams. Angelo State owns one of the best defensive units in the conference, ranking third in goals allowed with just 10 surrendered this season.
Midfielder Abby James continues to pace the attack with six assists, ranking third in the LSC, while forward Sanai Stewart leads the team with six goals. Graycen Rasmussen provided the game-winner against UT Tyler, and goalkeeper Melyna Martinez has been a cornerstone in the net, recording nine shutouts on the year.
The Rambelles have seen contributions from all across the lineup, with 10 different goal scorers this season: James, Stewart, Emily Thames, Christina Clark, Carley Martinez, Whitni Newbill, Rasmussen, Wrilyn Shippey, Jillian Greaves, and Lexi Gonzales.
Team captains Harper Saxon and Melyna Martinez have anchored the squad, while All-American defender Christina Clark continues to lead one of the nation’s top backlines under longtime head coach Travis McCorkle, now in his 18th season.
Following this week’s matches, Angelo State will await seeding for the 2025 Lone Star Conference Tournament, set to begin in early November.
