Central Bobcats Coach Smith Pleased with District Win, Hungry for More

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats (4-4) claimed their first district win of the season last Saturday against Midland High, 34-27. Coach Mark Smith discussed the win and previewed what the Bobcats should expect on the road against Odessa High at his weekly press conference on Monday.

"It was a great team victory," Smith said. "I thought offense, defense, and kicking game were great complementary football in the win. We had an unconventional offense that Midland High runs, and we did a great job of defending the run. It was a line of scrimmage game, and we were able to limit them running the ball to one of their lowest totals on the year."

Down 17-7 early, the Bobcats could have rolled over. However, Central fought back and eventually tied the game at the half before eventually taking the lead in the 2nd half. Midland popped a few long runs in the first two quarters, but Central's defense locked down for the most part in the second half to limit the Bulldogs to just 10 points.

On offense, Midland dropped several players into coverage on almost every play to take Central's most dangerous aspect away from the 'Cats. The Bobcats' answer? 261 rushing yards. The Bobcats dominated the game on the ground to secure the victory.

This was a key-note win for the Bobcats after losing the last several matchups against Midland High. If Central can be Odessa High on the road this weekend, this will officially be the best season so far under Coach Mark Smith.

Kickoff in Friday's matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
