Meet the Wall Hawks: Landon York and Jacob Braden
WALL, TX — The No. 2 Wall Hawks (5-0) hit the road to Idalou this week after completing half of their regular season in spectacular fashion. At 5-0, the Hawks enter the break in an even better situation than a season ago, where Wall made it all the way to the 3A Division II Semifinals.
Wall remains unbeaten and seems to be on a trajectory that will have the Hawks clash with some of the other 3A titans in the state in the postseason.
On offense, the Hawks have outscored their opponents 192-30 through five weeks. Much of that excellence can be attributed to Wall's quarterback, Landon York. A senior this season, York has thrown for 1193 yards on 81 of 131 passing, along with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions. These stats are all with York sitting out most of the 4th quarters this season.
Defensively, this might be the best all-around unit Coach Slaughter and the Hawks have ever put together. Of the 30 points Wall has allowed on the season, all have been garbage-time points. While in the game, the Hawks' starters have not allowed a single point through five games. Linebacker Jacob Braden is leading the way on defense. Braden leads the team with 51 tackles this season and is the backbone on defense.
Wall still has much to prove, but with York under center and Braden leading the defense, the Hawks have a good chance to make a serious run in the playoffs.
