Central Bobcats Show Promise in Final Scrimmage

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Central Bobcats played their final scrimmage ahead of the 2025 Football Season against Del Rio on Thursday, August 21. The 'Cats conintued to shake off the cobwebs and put on a dominant display in front of the fans at San Angelo Stadium.

On offense, new starting quarterback Micah Smith continues to take positive steps forward. He missed some throws early, but finished with a touchdown pass before the 2's came into the game. On the ground, Central brings three talented running backs to the field. Sophomore Zay Johnson will be a force this year. Against Del Rio, every time he touched the ball, the 'Cats gained yardage. However, tt wasn't just a one man show. Each running back found success and room to run.

Defensively, Central looked explosive. The Bobcats flew around the field and dominated every time it was their turn to play. Del Rio had some positive plays, but the 'Cats kept the Rams out of the end zone for the entire scrimmage. Most exciting, the 'Cats also forced takeaways. Whether it was an interception or a turnover on downs, Central's defense gave the offense plenty of extra opportunities to score.
