Former Wall Hawk Headed for Collegiate Football

WALL, TX — Former Wall Hawk Thomas Leanos has big plans ahead of him this fall as the former running back will play football at the collegiate level. Leanos made the decision recently to take his talents to Waxahachie to play football at Nelson University.

Leanos was the starting running back for a Wall squad that made it all the way to the Class 3A Division II state semifinals. The Hawks ultimately fell to eventual state champion Gunter in that game, but Wall fielded one of its best teams ever.

Leanos was a big part of the reason for the Hawks' success. The young man compiled over 1,500 yards of offense last season in a primarily "Air Raid" styled spread offense.

Nelson University, also known as Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), is a private, four-year university located in a suburb of Waxahachie. It offers a range of degree programs, including associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

Nelson finished with a 4-6 overall record last season and should benefit from an athlete like Leanos on its squad.

San Angelo LIVE!'s Ryan Chadwick sat down with Leanos at Wall High School before he left for fall camp at the end of last week. Hear from Leanos as he talks about his football journey here:
