COVER1 | Week 3 Pregame Show for the Concho Valley and South Plains

The COVER1 Crew talks Week 3. The Central Bobcats go into Shotwell Stadium to take on Abilene Cooper, the Wall Hawks revive the rivalry with the Jim Ned Indians, and Grape Creek and Bangs duke it out. Also, Houston Guy returns to the Coaching Corner to talk about how the Hawks did against the Brownwood Lions and how they match up with Jim Ned.

San Angelo Central at Abilene Cooper - 7 p.m. at Shotwell in Abilene

Chadwick - The Bobcats mounted an incredible comeback last week against Amarillo High that ultimately fell short in the final minutes. Turnovers, penalties, and mental mistakes on special teams kept Central from winning a game they should have won on the road. This week, Central travels to play Abilene Cooper in another matchup that they are completely capable of winning. However, the ‘Cats lost an offensive weapon in Colton Hill last week to an injury, so the pressures on for English and Edwards to pick up the slack.

El Paso Franklin at Lubbock Monterey - 7 p.m. Lowery Field in Lubbock

Chadwick - Lubbock Monterey has had a rough start to 2024. First, they traveled about seven hours northwest to Choctaw, Oklahoma, to play one of the powerhouses of our northern neighbor. Next, they lost a close matchup to Abilene Wylie, 29-28. The Plainsmen host El Paso Franklin for their home opener and should snag their first win of the season on Friday.

Jim Ned at Wall - 7 p.m. Bulldog Stadium

Chadwick - The non-district gauntlet continues for the Wall Hawks as they adjust to the spread offense in 2024. After a tough loss to Brownwood last week, their rival, Jim Ned, comes to town. Jim Ned dropped their season opener on the road against Lubbock Estacado but corrected the skid with a big win last week. This matchup will come down to defense. Can the Hawks stop Jim Ned’s run game? This should be a good one.

Ballinger at San Angelo TLCA - 7 p.m. Lake View Stadium

Chadwick - The Ballinger Bearcats are off to an impressive 2-0 start in 2024. Meanwhile, a young TLCA team continues to try to find their footing this season. While TLCA might be closer to putting things together, they are in the same position that Ballinger was in two years ago. The Bearcats take this one big.

Bangs at Grape Creek - Friday, 9/13 at 7 p.m. - Grape Creek High School

Chadwick - The Grape Creek Eagles may be 0-2, but they continue to play better each and every week. I say this is the matchup where Coach Thiel and the rest of the Eagles secure the first win of 2024.
