Angelo State Brings Back a Dangerous WR Group in 2024
SAN ANGELO, TX — Training camp is almost at an end, with the start of the 2024 College Football Season almost here. For the Angelo State Rams, a redemption tour is on everyone’s minds.
After an excellent season where the Rams finished 7-3, Angelo State still missed out on the playoffs in the rugged South Central Region. Despite the disappointing end, the Rams are hungry for a better outcome this year.
Angelo State returns an excellent offensive skill set to the front in 2024. One of those weapons is 4-year starting wide receiver Kel Williams. Williams finished 2023 with 17 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams’ run-heavy offense. The young man said after practice on Tuesday that ASU is the team to watch out for this season.
“I feel like we left a lot out on the field last season, going 7-3,” Williams said. “We set a goal that we were going to be really explosive this season and put the country on notice that we are coming.”
Angelo State averaged 31 points a game last season and enters 2024 with a new quarterback. Who will QB1? That question is still unanswered, but Williams thinks the Rams will be just fine. Angelo State returns six wide receivers this year and now just needs the right guy to get them the ball.
“We expect a lot of big plays, a lot of explosive plays coming out of this offense,” Williams continued.
The two guys who lead the quarterback race right now are Braeden Fuller and Kaeden Smith. These potential quarterbacks look to see explosive plays from Zorhan Rideaux, who led the Rams in reception yards last season, Kyle Bradford, Kel Williams, Hunter Wallis, and Albert Thomas IV. All these players return for another season.
The Rams kick off the 2024 season on the road at Fort Hays State Kansas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.
