SAN ANGELO, TX — The TLCA Eagles introduced a new Head Football Coach on Monday. In an exclusive interview with San Angelo LIVE!, the Eagles introduced Paulo Gonzalez as its new head football coach. Gonzales introduced himself to the rest of the staff and the team at workouts on Monday and is ready to implement his new program.
TLCA welcomed Coach Gonzalez in a statement. “Texas Leadership of San Angelo welcomes Coach Paulo Gonzalez as the brand new head football coach for the 2023-2024 school year.”
“Coach Gonzalez comes to TLCA from Maypearl ISD where he served during the 2022-2023 school year as the Assistant Head Football Coach, as well as the Head Boys Track Coach and leader in Strength & Conditioning,” TLCA said.
Gonzalez, an Abilene native, returns to West Texas with a full resume. He has experience in powerlifting, basketball, softball, and many other sports. His coaching tenures include everything from 1A to 6A (North Crowley). Before he stepped into high school coaching, he played and served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for Abilene Christian University. Finally, after college, he served as one of the coaches for the Arena Indoor Football Abilene Rough Riders. San Angelo had an indoor team at the time called the San Angelo Stampede.
Gonzalez inherits a TLCA program that made the playoffs last season. The Eagles still face a difficult road ahead with schools like the Wall Hawks and Early Longhorns in their path. He says he’s ready to meet the challenge head-on, and whatever his team faces, they will stay mentally tough and be ready for anything. Welcome to San Angelo, Coach!
