WATCH: San Angelo Central Coach Brent Davis and Others React to New Opponents Announced in 2020-2022 UIL Realignment

SAN ANGELO, TX — On Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, area high school coaches learned within what division their teams will be competing. At the Region 15 Center in San Angelo, San Angelo Central Bobcats Head Coach learned his team will be going back to the old days of just two years ago, that was before San Angelo Central and Abilene were stripped from their Midland and Lubbock rivals in exchange for the 4.5 hour bus rides to the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex to play powerhouse teams there.

For the next two years, San Angelo Central will play 6A schools in Midland, Odessa, Abilene, and one Lubbock area high school, according to the 2020-2022 UIL Realignment announced this morning.

Davis has Killeen Shoemaker, El Paso Montwood, Austin Vandergriff, Amarillo Tascosa on the non-conference schedule for 2020. Then, the conference games will be against what has historically been called “The Little Southwest Conference.” Davis described it as, “The seven 6As between El Paso and Fort Worth.”

“Obviously we’re excited. I really don’t think they had a choice after Tascosa dropped out of 6A,” Davis said.

Coaches were on the phone all day finding non-conference opponents to fill out they schedules.

In the video, we interview coaches from around the region about their schedules announced today, and highlight some of the rekindled rivalries that today’s UIL realignment created.
