1st Quarter
Midland Legacy won the toss and deferred to the 2nd half. The Bobcats took the opening kickoff and began their first drive at the 35-yard line. Central proceeded to march down the field efficiently on the ground and through the air. Christian English hit several receivers on the opening possession, including Carmelo Amigleo, Jayvion Robinson, and Colten Hill. The ‘Cats moved the ball inside Legacy’s 10-yard line. English called his own number at the five and opened up the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run. The Bobcats struck first, 7-0.
Central’s defense forced a three-and-out on Legacy’s first possession. On 4th down, the snap went over the punter’s head to set Central inside Legacy’s 15-yard line. The Rebel defense held strong and forced Central to kick a field goal, but the ‘Cats still led 10-0 midway through the 1st quarter.
2nd Quarter
After Legacy scored a touchdown on the next possession, the ‘Cats would score again. English hit Alex Lindsey on a 42-yard touchdown pass to give the Bobcats a 10-point lead early in the 2nd quarter.
Turnover struggles hit the ‘Cats hard in the 2nd Quarter as the Bobcats put the ball on the turf and allowed Legacy to get back into the game. The Rebels would 17 unanswered points to take the lead at the break, 24-17.
2nd Half
Following a quick score by Legacy to start the 2nd half, Central's offense found success through the air. English hit Hill for a sizable gain before a defensive pass interference on Legacy set the Bobcats up deep in Midland's territory. The Bobcats then turned to the ground game and punched the ball in three plays later on a 3-yard scramble from Christian English. The 'Cats cut into Legacy's lead and trailed 31-24.
Those were the last points the Bobcats would score in the contest. A combination of three-and-outs, lack of rhythm, and missed tackles on defense allowed the Rebels to score 35 unanswered points in the 2nd half. Central had several opportunities to score but never managed to put anything together.
The 'Cats fell in this one 66-24. The Bobcats travel to Odessa next week to play the Odessa Permian Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ratliff Stadium.
