BRADY— The Brady Bulldogs got their first win of the season on Friday night against the Dublin Lions 26-21.
At the coin toss, the Bulldogs chose to receive the kick and the game started off with exchange after exchange. Brady’s DeMarcus Reed had a big fourth down tackle and with about 5:18 left in the first, Zeke Jones had a fumble that the Lions recovered. Dublin wasn’t able to get anything going and gave the ball back to the Bulldogs.
Running back Daryl Adair had a big run but the Bulldogs ended up punting the ball. Then, Dublin had a fumble and Brady was back at it and driving again to end the first.
Adair then took a handoff 10-yards for the game’s first score. After a Zeke run for two points, the Bulldogs were up 8-0.
Brady stopped the Lions on fourth down and when the Bulldogs had the ball, they knew what to do with it and sophomore quarterback Sean Jacoby hit Jones for a 64-yard pass for a touchdown that made the score 14-0 after the missed point after.
Dublin wasn’t going to lay down as Aiden Hernandez caught a huge 35-yard touchdown pass from Lion quarterback Kaden Gaitan to put Dublin within seven. The Bulldogs responded with a 35-yard Jacoby run for a touchdown to make the score 20-7 with about 5:27 left.
With 4:25 left, the Bulldogs had a goal line stand and had great plays from Johnny Menefield and Reed. Menefield ended the Lion’s drive by batting down the ball on fourth down and took the game into halftime.
Dublin came out of the locker room fired but and with 10:49 left in the third quarter, Gaitan hit Hernandez down the visitor sideline for a 55-yard touchdown to bring the Lions within six points at 20-14.
After Dublin took back over, Brady’s Ashton Ramsey had a nice knock down and the Lions were forced to punt with 5:22 left in the third. Dublin would get the ball back on a Jacoby interception. That drive ended quickly, and the Bulldogs would take back over.
Brady’s Thunder and Lightning, or Adair and Jones, turned it on and each had a few good runs that ended with a 15-yard touchdown run from Jones that extended Brady’s lead to 26-14.
Dublin wasn’t laying down and Francisco Garcia snagged a beautiful catch along Brady’s sideline to keep the Lion’s moving. The Bulldog defense turned it on, and DeMarcus Reed had himself a huge sack. On fourth down with 2:28 to go in the game, Hernandez caught a Gaitan touchdown pass to move Dublin within one score, 26-21.
The Lions lined up to kick an onside kick that was recovered by the Bulldog’s Jorge Reza. After one first down, Jacoby was able to kneel out the game to seal Brady’s first victory on the season and Head Coach Jaron Roberts first win with the Brady Bulldogs.
Coach Roberts had this to say after the game.
