No. 6 Christoval Volleyball Survives Battle to Reach Regional Final

POST, TX — The No. 6-ranked Christoval volleyball team outlasted Vega in a four-set battle Saturday to advance to the 2A Division II regional final.

Every set was decided by four points or less in Christoval’s 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21 win.

Christoval improved to 31-8 overall, while Vega’s season ended at 20-16.

Christoval advances to the regional final, where the Lady Cougars will draw the winner of No. 2 Wink and No. 5 Windthorst, both of which are traditional state powers.

Wink has been to the state tournament 15 times and won two championships. Windthorst has been 25 times and won 14 titles.

Christoval, meanwhile, is in just its fifth season of having a volleyball program. The Lady Cougars were just a four-win team two years ago before improving to 17 wins last season, which ended with a first-round playoff loss to Wink in five sets.

This year, Christoval has had a season of firsts — including its first district title and its first three playoff trophies.

The Lady Cats’ regional final playoff match will be played next week on Monday or Tuesday.
