SEATTLE, WA — Jeffery Simmons recorded a sack in his Chicago debut, and Caleb Williams threw for 247 yards as the Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night.
Chicago (6-2) held Seattle to 252 total yards and just one conversion on 11 third-down attempts. The Bears also forced a fourth-quarter interception that helped seal the victory.
Simmons, acquired last week from the Tennessee Titans in a trade that included two first-round draft picks, made an immediate impact. The defensive lineman finished with six tackles, a sack, another tackle for loss, three quarterback pressures and a pass defended.
Williams completed 71% of his passes without committing a turnover, while running back D'Andre Swift scored three rushing touchdowns.
The Bears opened the game with a 17-play touchdown drive, capped by Williams' 1-yard pass to Luther Burden. Chicago added two field goals before halftime and extended its lead to 20-9 in the third quarter on Swift's 1-yard touchdown run.
Seattle (4-4) struggled offensively throughout the first half, although quarterback Sam Darnold connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 43-yard gain late in the second quarter.
The Seahawks mounted a fourth-quarter comeback after DeMarcus Lawrence forced a fumble by Chicago tight end Colston Loveland.
Darnold capitalized with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp, and Seattle converted the 2-point attempt to cut Chicago's lead to 20-17.
The Bears responded with another touchdown drive before Darnold threw an interception that set up Swift's third rushing touchdown, extending Chicago's lead to 34-17 with 4:41 remaining.
Darnold finished 17 of 34 for 188 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Seattle managed just 81 rushing yards despite the recent acquisition of three-time All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson and the return of running backs Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price from injuries.
The loss was Seattle's third in four games and ended a 30-game streak, including the playoffs, without a defeat by more than four points. It was the fourth-longest such streak in the Super Bowl era.
Chicago defensive linemen Grady Jarrett and Kenatvius Street left the game with injuries. Seattle defensive lineman Leonard Williams exited in the second half with a stinger and did not return.
The Bears will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday night, while the Seahawks will host the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday afternoon.
