VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Lake View, TLCA Lock Up Playoff Spots

SAN ANGELO, TX — An incredible volleyball season for Tom Green County schools continued Tuesday with the Lake View Maidens and TLCA Lady Eagles each earning playoff trips.

It’s the first time since 2022 that Lake View has qualified for the playoffs.

Lake View made it official with a four-set win Tuesday on the road against Levelland.

The Maidens are now 14-14 overall and 5-6 in District 5-4A heading into their regular-season finale at noon Saturday at home against Big Spring.

It has been a huge leap for the Lake View program after it struggled through winless seasons in 2023 and 2024. The Maidens’ improvement began last year with a seven-win season.

Kaylee Morgan is in her second year as Lake View’s head coach.

TLCA has qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive year after a sweep of Merkel on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles improved to 20-12 overall and 8-3 in District 5-3A heading into Friday’s regular-season finale at 7 p.m. Saturday at No. 24-ranked Jim Ned.

TLCA beat Jim Ned in four sets in their last meeting for one of its biggest wins of the season.

The playoffs are set to begin Oct. 29-31.

Other county highlights include:

  • The San Angelo Central Lady Cats are also playoff bound with an overall record of 17-11 and a mark of 4-3 in District 2-6A. They’re currently tied with Odessa High for second place heading into a 5 p.m. Friday match at Odessa High. A loss could drop Central into a tie for third with Odessa Permian.
  • The No. 7-ranked Wall Lady Hawks are 29-4 overall and 11-0 in District 5-3A. They’ve already wrapped up the district title into their regular-season finale at noon Saturday at home against Clyde. They’ve won 12 matches in a row as they prepare to try and make another deep playoff run following last year’s program-best trip to the state semifinals.
  • The No. 20-ranked Christoval Lady Cougars are 27-8 overall and just completed a 10-0 run through District 5-2A. It’s their first district title in program history. They’ll visit Sonora at noon Saturday for a playoff warm-up match.
  • The No. 2-ranked Water Valley Lady Cats are 24-8-1 overall and 7-0 in District 4-1A. They’ll look to finish off a perfect district run at 11 a.m. Saturday at Borden County. Water Valley made a surprise run to the state final last year after a runner-up finish in district.
  • The No. 9-ranked Veribest Lady Falcons are 29-8 overall and 7-0 in District 7-1A. After their regular-season finale at 10 a.m. Saturday at home against Olfen, they’re scheduled to play Ballinger in a playoff warm-up match immediately after at 11:15 a.m.
