Menard Cross Country, Track Star Ruiz Earning Numerous College Offers

MENARD, TX — Menard High School senior Danni Ruiz is receiving numerous college offers to continue her running career.

Despite competing at the state’s smallest level in Class 1A, Ruiz has earned plenty of attention with seven gold medals at the state track meet, along with three top 10 finishes at the state cross country meet.

In the past few months, Ruiz has been offered by NCAA Division I schools Texas State and Tarleton State, and D-II schools Angelo State and Dallas Baptist.

Last spring, she had a remarkable accomplishment by winning the 400- and 800-meter runs at state for the third straight year, while also winning her first state title in the 1600.

Her three gold medals single-handedly earned Menard a tie for third place in the team standings.

Ruiz has placed third at the state cross country meet in back-to-back seasons, following an eighth-place finish her freshman year.

Ruiz will try to reach the state cross country meet for a fourth straight time this fall, and then she’ll have three titles to defend during track season in the spring.
