NFL Removes Packers' Josh Jacobs, Broncos' Jonathon Cooper From Commissioner Exempt List

NEW YORK, NY — The NFL announced Friday that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs and Denver Broncos pass rusher Jonathon Cooper have been removed from the Commissioner Exempt List, making both players eligible to return for Week 7.

Jacobs will officially come off the exempt list Oct. 19 and will be eligible to play against the Detroit Lions, according to a statement released by the league. Cooper was removed from the list Friday and will be eligible to return for Denver's matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Both players were placed on the Commissioner Exempt List on Aug. 30 following separate arrests involving domestic violence allegations. The NFL said its reviews of their legal situations remain ongoing.

Jacobs was arrested in Wisconsin in May on five charges, including felony strangulation, following an altercation with his girlfriend.

On Sept. 10, Jacobs pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property. Jacobs filed a lawsuit Oct. 15 seeking to have evidence related to his battery case permanently sealed.

Cooper was arrested in Colorado in June on charges of domestic violence and criminal mischief following an argument with his girlfriend.

Prosecutors later dropped charges against Cooper's girlfriend and added charges against Cooper, including a felony count of second-degree assault by strangulation. The woman involved in the incident was also granted a protection order.

Cooper pleaded not guilty in his domestic violence case on June 9.

Three days later, on June 12, Cooper was arrested again on multiple charges alleging he violated the protection order through harassment involving repeated phone calls. Cooper's trial has since been rescheduled for March, with a pretrial hearing set for Feb. 19.

Green Bay has compiled a 3-2 record during Jacobs' absence but enters Week 7 with the NFL's 32nd-ranked rushing offense.

Denver enters Week 7 with a 4-2 record following a 17-14 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.

The NFL has not announced when its reviews of the players' legal situations will be completed.
