MASON, TX — Mason High School football standout Luke Tharp announced his second college offer Wednesday from McMurry University.
Tharp is a versatile player who has seen time at wide receiver and running back for the Punchers, while also playing at defensive back.
A year earlier, he rushed for 1,581 yards and 20 touchdowns as San Saba’s quarterback.
Tharp, who stands 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, is a big part of why Mason is off to a 6-0 start and ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 2A Division I.
In addition to his offer from McMurry, he has also been offered from the other NCAA Division III school in Abilene, Hardin-Simmons University.
Mason has a handful of other college prospects on its roster, including quarterback/running back Slade Buell, who has been offered by Division II Fort Lewis College, and twin offensive linemen Hudson and Jackson Contrucci, who have been offered by Division I UTEP and received a gameday invite from the University of Texas last month.
Mason will play at San Saba at 7 p.m. Friday.
