MERTZON, TX — The Irion County Lady Hornets had a remarkable showing at the District 11-1A Cross Country Meet on Wednesday by claiming the top seven spots.
PK Parker claimed the individual title, followed by Madeline Skelton in second, Faryn Callaway in third, Natilee Hernandez in fourth, Harper McDowell in fifth, Bradie Garza in sixth and Reese Rey in seventh.
Irion County is ranked No. 1 in Class 1A in the state cross country rankings.
The Lady Hornets are now moving on to the regional meet Oct. 27 in Arlington, where they’ll have a chance to advance to state. Though three Irion County girls advanced to state last year, the team missed out.
Irion County’s boys also captured the district title Wednesday, led by a first-place showing from Parker Kramer, who was fourth at state last year.
Other top 10 finishes at district came from George Sanchez in sixth and Aiden Aldrete in ninth.
