Ballinger Hands Forsan First Loss to Shake Up District Race

BALLINGER, TX — The Ballinger Bearcats pulled off an exciting fourth-quarter comeback Friday to knock off previously undefeated Forsan 40-37.

Ballinger trailed 37-28 before scoring the game’s final two touchdowns — capped by a 15-yard pass from Wyatt Clemens to Hunter Kresta with 40 seconds remaining.

Ballinger held on for a huge win over a Forsan team that was 6-0 and had won five straight games by 24 points or more.

Now it’s the Bearcats who are tied atop the District 4-2A Division I standings with Sonora. Ballinger improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district.

Forsan fell to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in district.

Clemens was sensational for the Bearcats, throwing for 313 yards and four TDs on 24-of-38 passing. He also led the team on the ground with 11 carries for 74 yards and a TD.

Kresta had nine catches for 163 yards and two TDs. Pierson Nord added seven catches for 81 yards and a TD. Brody Wilde also hauled in a 46-yard score.

Josh Martinez blocked a punt and recovered a fumble to make an impact on special teams and defense. He also had seven tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack.

Kaiden Medrano was in on 14 tackles and had a tackle for loss.

Ballinger will try to keep its momentum going next week at Colorado City, which is 4-3 overall and 1-2 in district. The Bearcats have big games looming, including at Sonora on Oct. 30, but they don’t want to overlook Colorado City before then.

Forsan will be off next week before hosting Colorado City on Oct. 23.

Forsan quarterback Owen Bishop threw for 238 yards and four TDs on 16-of-25 passing. Coy Evans had a stellar game with 11 catches for 220 yards.

Ashton Ellis led the Buffaloes' rushing attack with 20 carries for 102 yards.
