EDEN, TX — A lack of numbers has caused Eden High School to forfeit the rest of its varsity football schedule.
The Bulldogs will continue playing junior varsity games.
Eden began the season with only 11 players on its varsity roster, which included two seniors and no juniors.
So it was a difficult situation heading into the fall, and the Bulldogs were off to a 1-4 start with a challenging District 8-1A Division I schedule about to begin.
Following a 42-30 win over Paint Rock to start the year, Eden had lost four straight to Bronte (42-28), Rochelle (57-26), Panther Creek (46-20) and Gustine (50-0).
Eden will still hold Senior Night festivities after its game with Veribest on Thursday.
“While this is certainly different from what we originally planned, we want to make sure our students continue to have the experiences, traditions, and community support that make football season special at Eden,” the school district stated in a Facebook post.
“We know this season has not gone exactly as any of us anticipated. However, our goal is to make sure our football players, cheerleaders, band members, coaches, and entire student body continue to experience the traditions, excitement, and community spirit that come with being a Bulldog.”
