No. 7 Angelo State Hosts Sul Ross State to Close Homestand

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 7-ranked Angelo State University volleyball team will close its homestand Tuesday night when the Rambelles host Sul Ross State in Lone Star Conference volleyball action at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

The match will feature ASU's “Boots & Belles” theme. Fans wearing Western-themed attire can purchase tickets for $5 at the gate.

ASU enters the match after wins over Oklahoma Christian and Cameron last weekend boosted the Belles' record to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

Sul Ross State enters the week 0-14 overall and 0-4 in LSC play. The Lobos were swept on the road by Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International last week.

Sul Ross State has won five sets this season, including one in its season opener against Southwestern Oklahoma State and one against Midwestern State in conference play. The Lobos also went five sets against Eastern New Mexico during the Lone Star Conference Challenge.

Offensively, Sul Ross State ranks last in the LSC with a .114 team hitting percentage. Antyiahna Lang leads the Lobos with 121 kills while hitting .269.

Sul Ross State runs a 6-2 offense, with Mia Espinoza recording 187 assists and Violeta Flores adding 165.

Opponents are hitting .280 against the Lobos, which ranks last in the conference. Espinoza leads Sul Ross State with 84 digs, while McKenzie Hart has a team-high 26 blocks.

ASU dropped one spot to No. 7 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II coaches poll released Monday.

Preseason LSC Offensive Player of the Year Madi Parrish enters Tuesday leading the Rambelles with 181 points and 151 kills. The senior from Saginaw has also recorded 23 service aces and 12 blocks while ranking second on the team with 166 digs.

Parrish reached another career milestone Saturday against Cameron, becoming the 13th player in program history to record 1,000 career digs.

She also became the third player in ASU history to record at least 1,000 career digs and 1,300 career kills, joining Jennifer Glass, who played from 1993-96, and Brianna Sotello, who played from 2014-17.
