SAN ANGELO, TX — No. 6 Angelo State battled back from a late Cameron run to earn a five-set victory over the Aggies on Saturday during Military Appreciation Day at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The victory improved the Belles to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play. Cameron fell to 1-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The match also featured a career milestone for Madi Parrish, who recorded her 1,000th career dig in the third set. Parrish became the 13th player in Angelo State program history to reach 1,000 career digs.
Parrish also became just the third player in program history to record at least 1,000 career digs and 1,300 career kills, joining Jennifer Glass, who played from 1993-96, and Brianna Sotello, who played from 2014-17.
Angelo State outhit Cameron .225 to .168 and held advantages in kills, 66-44; service aces, 10-5; assists, 64-43; and digs, 85-72.
Julia Hopkins led all players with 15 kills while hitting .353.
Parrish finished with 13 kills and a team-high 15 digs, bringing her career total to 1,004 digs.
Alli Kirkpatrick added 10 kills while hitting .320. Sydney Thornton and Leah Klueber each recorded eight kills, while Vivian Parker finished with seven.
Gabi Ashcraft led Angelo State with 26 assists, and Olivia Pena added 21. Allie Duitsman contributed eight assists, while Madison Scrivner finished with seven.
Hannah Barnhill led the Belles with two solo blocks. Duitsman paced the defense with a match-high 25 digs.
Angelo State will return to Lone Star Conference play Tuesday when it hosts Sul Ross State at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
