CONCHO VALLEY SHOWDOWN: Wall Hawks Prepare for Battle With Ozona Lions

SAN ANGELO, TX— The undefeated Wall Hawks are gearing up for a Concho Valley showdown with the Ozona Lions tonight at Clayton Weishuhn Field.

The defending state champion Wall Hawks are off to an impressive start to the 2026 high school football season after taking down Canyon West Plains, La Joya and rival Jim Ned. Now, they’ll take on Ozona, which is coming off of a near comeback against Junction, where they lost, 37-32.

Wall, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A Division I, has won 19 games in a row.

For the Hawks, first-year starting quarterback Gunner King has hit the ground running. In three contests, he has completed 72% of his passes, going 59-of-82 for 949 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception. King doesn’t have just one receiver to throw to. Four different Hawks have over 100 receiving yards— Jager Thompson 257) Hudson Surber (241), Evan Boehle (169) and Gunner Garza (141). Speaking of Garza, he handles the running back position and has gone for over 100 yards in two games, totaling 315 yards and five scores.

Defensively, Kaden McFarden and Slayton Hallmark have 29 and 28 tackles, respectively, and six different plays each have one sack. Kalen Sanders, Blaize Benson and Krue Thompson have snagged an interception.

As for the Lions, don’t be fooled by the 1-2 record. 2A D-I Ozona took on a private school, Hyde Park, in Week 2, and Junction, which has made it to the fourth round of the playoffs the last two seasons. Ozona had a huge task this season in replacing a 3,600-yard rusher from last year in Christian Villarreal, but has found Jay Borrego, who has 59 carries for 473 yards and four TDs, going over 100 yards in each game.

Boston Pitts has taken over at quarterback and has gone 33-of-70 for 468 yards and three TDs with three INTs. Andon Glosson and Leo Blanco have been the guys out wide with 232 yards and 106 yards, respectively, and three scores combined.

One thing that may give the Hawks fits is the giant offensive line the Lions are bringing that averages over 270 pounds.

The Lions defense is led by Kaleb Ramon, who has 20 tackles, followed by Ethan Ramon with 18, and Issac Vega with 16. Bryan Serrano leads the team in sacks with three. Luis Romero has batted away four passes. Stockton Bean, Isaac Romero and Jace Dominguez each have a fumble recovery.

The Wall Hawks take on the Ozona Lions at Clayton Weishuhn Field at 7 p.m. tonight.
