SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Central senior offensive lineman Ethan Boyd has been named one of the top 500 prospects in the state by Texas Football.
Boyd was the only player from the Concho Valley to make the list, which is filled with top recruits from the usual hotspots around the state like the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Houston and the Austin/San Antonio area.
Boyd has committed to play at UTSA after announcing offers from nine NCAA Division I colleges, including Oklahoma State, UTEP, Georgia State, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, UT Rio Grande Valley, Navy and Abilene Christian.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive lineman was a first-team All-District 2-6A selection last year who helped the Bobcats go 8-4 and win their first playoff game since 2020.
Boyd has started all 22 games since he debuted on Central’s varsity team as a sophomore.
Boyd has been recovering from an injury and his status is unclear for Central’s season opener at home Friday, Aug. 28, against Abilene High.
The only other West Texas player to make the prospect list was Midland Christian’s Caleb Cruz. Farther out in our region into the South Plains and Panhandle, Frenship’s Gunner Edwards and Amarillo Palo Duro’s Julian Reese and Kyron Brown were also named.
