AUSTIN, TX — A Lake Travis High School football player died several days after suffering a medical emergency during football practice, Lake Travis ISD Superintendent Curtis Null said Thursday.
Odin Hensley, 17, a senior and offensive lineman, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest.
“It is with profound sadness that we share that Lake Travis High School senior Odin Hensley has passed away as a result of complications from a medical emergency he experienced during football practice earlier this week,” Null wrote.
Hensley experienced a “serious health emergency” at about 8 a.m. Monday during practice, according to a post from Lake Travis High School Football. Travis County STAR Flight responded to the incident, and the school canceled football activities for the remainder of the day.
Hensley attended Lake Pointe Elementary School before enrolling at Lake Travis High School, where he participated in football and wrestling, according to the district.
Null described Hensley as a kind and determined student who was a valued teammate, classmate and friend.
School counselors were available Thursday at the counseling center to support students, families and staff following his death.
A prayer vigil for Hensley was held Wednesday at Lake Hills Church in Travis County.
