Mason’s Appleton Picks Up 5th Division I Basketball Offer

MASON, TX — Mason High School basketball star Flora Appleton continues to rake in college basketball offers from around the country.

Appleton, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard, announced Tuesday she has received her fifth NCAA Division I offer, this one from the University of West Florida.

The school, located in Pensacola, is moving to Division I next season and will compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference with schools such as Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville and Stetson.

Appleton has also received an offer from another Atlantic Sun Conference school — Bellarmine.

The other three Division I schools to offer Appleton are Cal State Bakersfield, San Jose State and Siena.

She has received offers from three D-II schools including Angelo State, Chaminade and Arkansas Tech.

Appleton began her high school career at Class 1A Richland Springs before transferring to 2A Mason before her junior year.

Last season, she helped the Cowgirls go 40-2 and reach their first state final in program history.

Appleton averaged 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game to earn all-state honors.

She recently had 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 1A-4A All-Star Game in Arlington. She was one of only 24 players in the state who were chosen to compete.

Outside of school, Appleton plays for Phoenix Select Basketball, an AAU team based out of Austin. The team just finished competing at the Nike Nationals Tournament of Champions in Chicago.
