Midland Baseball Player Regaining Feeling in Legs After Broken Neck

MIDLAND, TX — Midland RockHounds outfielder Ryan Lasko said Monday he has regained some feeling in his legs and continues to make progress in his recovery, four weeks after suffering a broken neck in an on-field collision with a teammate.

Lasko shared an update on his Instagram story, saying he has sensation from his feet to his knees, along with involuntary leg movements. He also said he has regained some feeling in his thighs, hamstrings and back, while reporting about 75% use of his left hand and 50% use of his right.

"I'm currently feeling much better," Lasko wrote. "I'm very happy with my progress and once again, so very thankful for all the love and support. It has continued to help me get up every day and work my hardest."

Lasko underwent surgery June 30 to repair fractures to his C6 and C7 vertebrae after colliding with teammate Devin Taylor while both players dove for a fly ball during a Double-A game in Frisco, Texas. Lasko remained motionless on the field following the collision.

The 24-year-old was selected by the Athletics in the second round of the 2023 amateur draft out of Rutgers.

Lasko was batting .209 with six home runs, 34 RBIs and a .635 OPS for Midland this season. He appeared in 13 games with Triple-A Las Vegas last year and played 21 games in the Arizona Fall League, where he batted .357 with nine stolen bases.
