Texas Golfer Shoots 15th Round of 59 on PGA Tour

BLAINE, MN — Michael Kim shot a 59 on Friday at the 3M Open, marking just the 15th time a player has carded the hallowed score.

Kim sank a 17-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, then drained a 24-footer on the 18th to finish off his historic round.

The Houston-based golfer was seven shots off the lead entering the day after an opening-round 69, but he now has a three-shot lead at 14-under par.

Kim’s bogey-free round concluded with four straight birdies to set a new course record at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

Jake Knapp was the last to shoot 59 during the first round of the 2025 Cognizant Classic.

Kim’s previous career-low round was 62.

Kim is an unlikely golfer to fire a 59. He has only won once on the PGA Tour — at the John Deere Classic in 2018.

He has never been ranked higher than 35th, and he has never finished better than 17th in a major.

Kim is now tied with 15 other golfers for the second-best score in a PGA Tour event. Jim Furyk stands alone at the top after shooting a 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
