SAN ANGELO, TX — Two former San Angelo residents were named to Texas Football’s 40-Under-40: Who’s Next Among Texas Coaches list.
Braden Hucks, who quarterbacked Central to an 11-2 record in 2014, was one of the honorees, along with former Lake View coach Jason Reynolds.
Hucks is now an offensive assistant coach at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. He is preparing for his sixth season with the Texans and has helped the program reach the playoffs in back-to-back years with a 22-6 record during that time.
Hucks will be remembered by Bobcats fans for his incredible senior season, when he threw for 3,070 yards and 32 touchdowns, while adding 1,339 rushing yards and 22 more scores.
In a season full of memorable performances, his best was engineering a 21-point fourth-quarter comeback against Arlington Bowie in the first round of the playoffs. The Bobcats won 55-52 in double overtime.
Hucks went on to play collegiately at Air Force Academy, Texas Tech, Blinn Junior College and Tarleton.
Last year, he helped Tarleton win a share of its first conference title as a Division I school. The Texans eventually reached the national quarterfinals.
Reynolds, who was an assistant football coach and head track coach at Lake View from 2012-18, was recognized for his work at Natalia High School outside of San Antonio.
Natalia, which is moving up from 3A Division II to 3A D-I in the upcoming school year, went 5-5 last year to improve from a 1-9 mark a season earlier in Reynolds’ first year at the helm.
Reynolds graduated from Angelo State University.
