Eight Angelo State Track and Field Athletes Named Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, IN — The Angelo State track and field program had eight student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced.

Three Rams — Jahleel Armstrong, Jaime Moreno and Kobi Valchar — were recognized, along with five Rambelles — Ekaterina Fedotova, Abril Okon, Kaylee Price, Marie Schuler and former Wall Lady Hawks' Kamryn Williams.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically, maintain a minimum 3.50 GPA and rank among the top 50 in their event regionally.

Armstrong, a junior sprinter from Redman’s Village, Barbados, majoring in business management, earned two All-American finishes at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. He placed sixth in the 400 meters and was part of the national championship-winning 4x400-meter relay team.

Moreno, a junior javelin thrower from Guadalajara, Mexico, majoring in management, finished fifth at the national championships with a personal-best throw of 229 feet, 11 inches (70.08 meters).

Valchar, a junior thrower from Schulenberg, Texas, majoring in commercial aviation, was a First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection. He scored 16 points at the LSC Championships, finishing second in the hammer throw and third in the discus, and set a personal-best mark of 175-11 (53.63 meters) in the hammer.

On the women’s side, Fedotova, a sophomore javelin thrower from Samara, Russia, majoring in communications, earned Second Team All-American honors after finishing 14th at the national championships and placing third at the LSC Championships.

Okon, a junior from Rafaela, Argentina, majoring in kinesiology, earned two Second Team All-American honors in the heptathlon and high jump. She finished as the LSC runner-up in the heptathlon with a personal-best 5,038 points.

Price, a sophomore hurdler from Harper, Texas, majoring in exercise science, earned First Team All-American honors after placing seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 59.27 seconds.

Schuler, a senior thrower from Langenfeld, Germany, majoring in business, concluded her career as a First Team All-American with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw. A two-time LSC champion in the event, she is the only woman in conference history to surpass the 200-foot mark, accomplishing the feat three times.

Williams, a junior from Wall, Texas, majoring in exercise science, recorded a personal-best throw of 185-2 (56.45 meters) in the hammer to earn Second Team All-American honors. She also earned Second Team All-American recognition during the indoor season in the weight throw.

Armstrong, Moreno, Okon, Price, Schuler, and Williams advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with the men’s team set to be announced July 14 and the women’s team on July 15.
