DENTON, TX — Four-star quarterback Colton Nussmeier, who is committed to the University of Georgia, has been ruled ineligible to play this season for Denton Ryan.
Nussmeier transferred this offseason from Flower Mound Marcus.
However, it was determined the move was made for athletic purposes. The District Executive Committee was tied 3-3 on a vote regarding the matter, so the decision was decided by the Prior Athletic Participation Form, a document required for high school student-athletes when they transfer to another school.
Nussmeier’s PAPF reportedly indicated the move was made for athletic reasons, though his parents have said the move was made for family reasons.
Nussmeier can appeal the ruling with the University Interscholastic League.
Nussmeier, a 6–foot-4, 195-pound prospect, threw for 1,390 yards and 12 touchdowns with one interception last year before a knee injury ended his season after eight games. He also added 278 rushing yards and three TDs.
While Flower Mound Marcus went 5-4 last season and didn’t advance to the playoffs, Denton Ryan went 12-2 and reached the regional final.
Nussmeier is the son of New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and the younger brother of recent Kansas City Chiefs' draft pick Garrett Nussmeier, who is also a QB.
Nussmeier is also the second high-profile Dallas-Fort Worth area athlete to be ruled ineligible this week, joining North Crowley cornerback John Meredith III, who is the top-ranked recruit in Texas, and transferred over the offseason from Euless Trinity.
