Texas Longhorns Crush Alabama to Stay Alive at World Series

OMAHA, NE — The No. 6-ranked University of Texas baseball team staved off elimination Monday with a resounding 14-2 win over No. 7 Alabama at the College World Series.

Texas lost its opening game 7-1 to No. 3 Georgia on Saturday, but the Longhorns bounced back in a huge way with its offensive explosion against Alabama.

Adrian Rodriguez recorded just the third cycle in College World Series history and matched the CWS single-game record with seven RBIs.

Rodriguez went 5-for-5 to lead a Texas offense that produced 13 hits and drew six walks.

Texas’ Ruger Riojas scattered six hits in six innings to pick up the win. The Longhorns’ bullpen pitched three no-hit innings after that.

Texas will face the loser of Oklahoma and Georgia in another elimination game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Texas is attempting to become the first school to ever sweep the baseball and softball national titles.
