San Angelo’s Martin Leads MLB in Wins After Wednesday’s Outing

CHICAGO, IL — Former Central Bobcats star Davis Martin is now tied for the major league lead in wins after another stellar performance Wednesday.

Martin threw six scoreless innings — the third time he’s done so this year — to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Martin now has a record of 9-2, tying him with Aaron Ashby and Gavin Williams for the most wins in Major League Baseball.

Martin scattered six hits, five of which were singles, and he struck out six and walked none.

He lowered his ERA to 2.41, which is sixth-best in the majors.

Meanwhile, the White Sox now have a record of 36-31 and surprisingly lead the American League Central Division after posting the second-worst record in the league last year.

It’s been an incredible season for Martin, who looks more and more like a lock to earn his first trip to the All-Star Game.

The 29-year-old, who graduated from San Angelo Central in 2015, had only 10 career wins in 44 starts entering this season while playing for one of the league’s worst teams.

Martin missed the entire 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery before returning in 2024 and earning a spot in the starting rotation last year.

He is one of only three Central graduates — along with David Hulse and Trey Lunsford — to play in the majors.

Martin is scheduled to pitch again Tuesday when the White Sox visit the New York Yankees.
