ROCHESTER, NY — Former Wall High School pitcher Luke Young was called up to the Triple A Rochester Red Wings earlier this month, and he’s now one more promotion away from playing in the majors.
Young helped Wall win its first-ever state title in baseball in 2019 and was named the MVP of the state championship game.
He went on to play at Midland College and signed with Oklahoma State University, but he never played in Stillwater after being drafted in the 11th round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.
He has been moving up through the minor leagues ever since.
Young was promoted to Double A Harrisburg in April 2025 and put together a strong performance there. He had a 2.04 earned-run average and 1.08 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) this season before he was called up to Triple A Rochester on May 9.
He has had four appearances out of the bullpen in Rochester so far.
Young was born in San Angelo in 2011, and the 6-foot-3 right-hander is now 24 years old.
The Washington Nationals have a record of 25-25, but they’ve allowed the most runs in all of MLB, so the organization could have a desire to take a look at some of its minor-league arms.
If so, Young could be pitching in the majors sooner rather than later.
