Wall-Jacksboro Regional Final Delayed Due to Lightning

UPDATE: A lightning strike within 8 miles of the stadium has caused another delay. Players won't be able to return to the field until at least 7:05 p.m. to continue warmups. A game official estimated the game may not start until about 7:30 p.m.

ABILENE, TX — The Wall Hawks and Jacksboro Tigers will have to wait a little longer to get their Class 3A Division II regional final series underway this evening.

Originally scheduled for 6 p.m., the start has now been delayed until at least 7 p.m. due to thunderstorms in the Abilene area.

Wall (30-8) and Jacksboro are meeting in a rematch of last year’s regional final, which Wall swept 5-0 and 6-1 on the way to the second state title in program history.

Wall entered the playoffs this year ranked No. 3 in the state, while Jacksboro was No. 20.

It’s an exciting matchup of Wall’s high-powered offense, which is averaging 11.2 runs per game, against Jacksboro’s pitching and defense, which are allowing just 2.8 runs per game.

Jacksboro is scoring 7.5 runs per contest, while Wall is giving up an average of 3.8 runs per game.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday back at Abilene Christian University’s Crutcher Scott Field. An if-necessary Game 3 will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday at the same site.

The winner will advance to the state semifinals against Bells or Paradise.
