Former Central QB McIvor Works Out for Defending Super Bowl Champs

SEATTLE, WA — Former San Angelo Central star Maverick McIvor recently worked out for a third NFL team this offseason. This time, it was the defending Super Bowl champions.

McIvor showed the Seattle Seahawks what he could do last week as they joined the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears in giving the former Bobcat a look.

McIvor attended rookie minicamps for the Cowboys and Bears before landing a workout with the Seahawks, but he hasn’t been signed by a team yet.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound McIvor played his senior season last year at Western Kentucky University and was named the MVP of the New Orleans Bowl in his final game.

McIvor led the Hilltoppers to a 5-2 start last year before a shoulder injury sidelined him and ultimately cost him his starting job.

It was the latest in a string of injuries for McIvor, who received more than 20 NCAA Division I college offers while at Central before signing with Texas Tech.

McIvor suffered a season-ending knee injury early in his senior year at Central, and injuries derailed his career at Texas Tech.

He rejuvenated his career at Abilene Christian University, highlighted by a junior season when he threw for 3,820 yards with 30 touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to their first-ever conference championship at the NCAA Division I FCS level.

His time there was highlighted by a 506-yard passing performance against Texas Tech in a 52-51 overtime loss.

McIvor’s father, Rick, played at the University of Texas and was selected in the third round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.
