Wall Sweeps Coahoma to Advance to Regional Final

ABILENE, TX — Another solid performance saw the Wall Hawks (27-8) down Coahoma in Game 2 of the regional semifinals on Saturday. Wall completed the sweep, 9–3, to punch its ticket to the regional final.

"It was really complete baseball," head coach Jeremy Gordon said. "Complementary baseball. I saw some really good approaches at the plate throughout this series. We got guys on base and caused chaos and havoc like we like to do. We were pretty solid on defense for the most part. A few errors here and there, but that's baseball. Also, a really great job from our pitching staff."

The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead at the top of the first inning thanks to some self-inflicted mistakes by the Hawks. An error allowed the first run in before Coahoma scored a second on a passed ball.

The Hawks immediately answered in the bottom of the frame. Hagyn Barbee hit a single, and Jacob Braden drew a walk before Reid Ballard hit an RBI single to left field. Braden then scored on a bad throw back into the infield to tie the game 2-2.

Wall took its first lead of the contest in the bottom of the third inning. Kellan Oliver kick-started the offense with a double to lead off the inning before Ballard hit another double to score Oliver. Lawson Dankworth then hit an RBI single that scored Ballard.

Later in the inning, Gage Reichenau hit a double to left that scored Dankworth. Tyler Klinesmith also scored after Coahoma failed to get the ball back to the pitcher safely. Wall led 6-2 heading to the fourth inning.

Wall would add to its lead in the fourth when Braden scored on a passed ball to put the Hawks up 7-2.

Coahoma managed to put one more run on the board in the fifth inning on a called balk, but Wall proved to be too much on defense.

The Hawks added two more runs in the sixth to secure the victory. Wyatt Jost hit a 2-RBI single to right that scored Dankworth and Klinesmith. Jost finished the game off on the mound for Wall, and the Hawks claimed a 9-3 victory to sweep the Bulldogs.

Reichenau received the win for his work on the mound. Wall’s ace threw four innings and allowed two runs (none earned). He also compiled four strikeouts and two walks in the win.

Jost came into the game in relief for the Hawks. The young man pitched the final three innings and allowed a single run. He also added three strikeouts, including the final two batters, and walked two.

Wall took another step toward defending its state title with the win over Coahoma, but it seems like Wall was often overlooked in 2026. After starting the season with a losing record, due to playing 5A and 6A competition, Wall spent much of the season outside the top 10 in the state rankings. The defending champs just keep winning and plan to take a fiery attitude all the way to Austin. Coach Gordon said that these guys are still hungry.

"These guys are itching for another opportunity to get out there and prove everybody wrong," he said.

Next up, the Hawks will face off with Jacksboro in the regional final. The date, time and location are still to be determined.
