CANYON, TX — The Angelo State University softball team suffered a season-ending 8-5 loss Saturday to Texas A&M-Kingsville at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
ASU overcame a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the fifth inning — on a three-run home run by Tatiana Trotter — and a game-tying solo HR by Larryn Feuge in the sixth inning.
Kingsville took it right back, however, with a three-run seventh inning, and the Belles weren’t able to recover in the bottom of the frame.
No. 3-seeded ASU was already in a difficult position needing three wins Saturday. Even with a win over No. 6 Kingsville, the Belles would have had to beat No. 2 West Texas A&M twice on its home field.
ASU’s season ended with a record of 47-14, while Kingsville improved to 36-20. The Javelinas will now try to pull off an improbable sweep of WT to advance to next week’s Super Regional.
