BIG LAKE, TX — The Wall Lady Hawks on Friday managed to slow down a Coahoma offense that averages more than 15 runs per game.
It still wasn’t enough, however, for Wall to win the opening game of their Class 3A Division II regional final.
Coahoma overcame an early 3-1 deficit to win Game 1 of their series 6-4.
Wall will now need two wins Saturday against the three-time defending champs to keep its season alive. Game 2 is set for noon, with an if-necessary Game 3 following 30 minutes later.
Wall scored three times in the first inning Friday, but Coahoma answered with two runs in the second and two more in the third for a 5-3 lead.
Wall pitcher Madee Williams kept the Bulldogettes in check the rest of the game, with their only run coming on a passed ball in the seventh inning.
Wall’s Emery Harper hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to get Wall within 5-4. Harper also had a double in the game.
Williams limited Coahoma to only six hits, but she also walked six while trying to be careful with the Bulldogettes’ dangerous lineup.
Coahoma’s Kyndal Lee held Wall to five hits and only one unearned run with a defense that committed five errors behind her.
Wall’s record dropped to 28-6, while Coahoma improved to 25-4.
