Reagan County Softball Continues Historic Run, Reaches Regional Final

LUBBOCK, TX — The Reagan County Lady Owls made school history again Thursday by advancing to the regional final in softball for the first time ever.

Reagan County, which was coming off its first area-round title last week, cruised past Clarendon 10-0 in the regional semifinals to continue its historic run.

The Lady Owls improved to 21-6 and will face the winner of defending state champion Sundown (25-3) and Haskell (19-6) next week for the Region I title in Class 2A Division II.

Reagan County didn’t look like a team that had never played in the regional semifinals as the Lady Owls jumped all over Clarendon with three runs in the first inning and three more in the second for a quick 6-0 lead.

They added three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to complete a run-rule mercy-rule win.

Reagan County’s offense churned out 11 hits and held Clarendon to only three.

Senior Brooklynn Reyes picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle as she threw all six innings, striking out four and walking two. Her defense was rock-solid behind her and didn’t commit an error.

The Lady Owls’ offense was led by sophomore Yasmine Wells, who went 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs. Senior Natalia Aguilar went 2-for-2 with a walk and a pair of stolen bases, while senior Magaley Castillo was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Reyes, Ellie Fuller, Justiz Bruno and Marianna Aguilar also added hits. The Lady Owls drew eight walks and stole a whopping 11 bases.

Reagan County has now won 12 of its last 13 games.
