CANYON, TX — Freshman Zoey Sifuentes hit two home runs Thursday to lead the No. 3-seeded Angelo State Rambelles to a 4-1 win over No. 6 Lubbock Christian in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Softball Tournament.
Sifuentes had a two-run HR in the first inning, followed by Tatiana Trotter’s solo shot for a quick 3-0 lead.
Sifuentes then added a solo blast in the third inning for a 4-0 advantage.
LCU was held to three hits and scored its only run on a solo HR by Ashlinn Hamilton in the fourth inning.
The Rambelles were held to six hits but did their damage with the long ball to improve to 44-12 overall. LCU — which was No. 10 in the most recent regional rankings — saw its season likely end with a record of 28-23.
ASU advances to play the winner of No. 2 UT-Tyler and No. 7 St. Mary’s at 2 p.m. Friday.
Belles pitcher Maddison Ruiz threw four innings and allowed three hits and one run. She struck out five and walked two.
Addy Ewing finished off the game by pitching three no-hit innings with five strikeouts and a walk.
