Big Spring Names Martin New Head Football Coach

BIG SPRING, TX — Stacey Martin, a 1993 graduate of Big Spring High School, is returning home to coach his alma mater.

Martin, who is currently serving as an assistant football coach and the boys head track coach at Midland High, was named Big Spring’s new head football coach and athletic director Monday.

Martin replaces Cannon McWilliams, who had led the Steers’ program since 2019 before resigning recently to accept the job at Crane.

Martin was an all-state defensive back at Big Spring before playing football and running track at Sul Ross State University.

He began his coaching career in 1998 and has served as a head football coach at four high schools — Coahoma, Alpine, Luling and Slaton.

Martin inherits a Big Spring team that went 5-5 last year. The Steers have been a district rival of San Angelo Lake View but are dropping to Class 4A Division II next school year.
