EULA, TX — For the second year in a row, the Wall Lady Hawks drew the short end of the stick against the Jacksboro Tigerettes. Despite leading for much of the game, Wall fell in the final inning to end its season in Game 3 of the area round, 3-2.
It was a pitcher's duel for the first couple of innings until Wall broke the stalemate in the bottom of the third when Kaimee Smith singled on a line drive to score Ella Taylor.
The Lady Hawks would later add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jordan Chitsey singled on a fly ball to right field, which eventually scored Smith on a subsequent error getting the ball back into the pitcher. Wall led 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning.
Unfortunately for the Lady Hawks, this is where the game went wrong.
After Madee Williams struck out the first batter in the inning, two straight singles from the Tigerettes set up a hit to the outfield. An error allowed two runs to score on the play, and just like that, it was all tied up at two apiece. Two batters later, a single to center scored the go-ahead run to give Jacksboro a 3-2 advantage headed to the final frame.
The Lady Hawks could not muster the offense in the bottom of the seventh inning and fell 3-2.
Wall finishes the season with a 26-7 overall record and another playoff trophy. But for a team that spent much of the season ranked in the top 10, it seemed to end too soon.
