PORTALES, NM — The Angelo State Rambelles softball team closed out the regular season, splitting a doubleheader with Eastern New Mexico on Sunday, winning the opener 13-5 in five innings before falling 5-1 in the finale at Greyhound Softball Field.
Angelo State (43-12, 32-8 Lone Star Conference) powered its way to a run-rule victory in Game 1, collecting 16 hits — 10 of which went for extra bases — including seven home runs, the second-most in a single game in program history.
Tatiana Trotter got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the first inning, followed by a solo shot from Ashleigh Dendas to give the Rambelles a 3-0 lead before Eastern New Mexico tied the game in the bottom half.
The Rambelles broke it open with a 10-run third inning, sending 15 batters to the plate. Zoey Sifuentes launched a two-run homer, while Trotter and Dendas followed with back-to-back-to-back solo home runs to extend the lead to 7-3. Greysen Collins added an RBI double and later scored, while Kylie Forney capped the inning with a three-run homer. Sifuentes added her second home run of the inning to make it 13-3.
Eastern New Mexico scored twice in the fifth but could not extend the game. Maddison Ruiz earned the win in relief, allowing two hits and striking out four over 1 2/3 innings.
In Game 2, Eastern New Mexico took control early with two runs in the first inning. Trotter responded with a solo home run in the second, which was the 40th of her career as she became one of five players in program history to reach that mark.
The Greyhounds added a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to secure the 5-1 win and salvage the split.
Angelo State closes the regular season as the No. 3 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday in Canyon.
