Angelo State Softball to Play Final Home Games This Weekend

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 13-ranked Angelo State softball team will be at home for the final time in the regular season this weekend with doubleheaders against Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State at Mayer Field.

The Rambelles (38-9 overall and 27-5 in Lone Star Conference play) are in the thick of the LSC title race, trailing West Texas A&M by one game for the top spot in the standings with eight games remaining.

A gigantic matchup between ASU and WT is looming next Friday in Canyon.

Before then, the Belles will try and take care of business at home. They’ll play Lubbock Christian at 5 p.m. Friday and Midwestern at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Free t-shirts will be available at the gate on Friday while supplies last. The concession stand will also offer a Family Meal Deal, which includes four hot dogs and four bags of chips for $24, as well as the Senior Snickers Special, where fans can buy a Snickers bar and a drink for $3.

ASU is on an eight-game winning streak, which includes road wins over St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s last weekend.  

Lubbock Christian enters the week at 23-19 overall and 19-13 in LSC play. They’re hitting .285 this season, averaging five runs per game.

Kaden Vire leads the team with a .424 batting average and a .682 slugging percentage. Coryn Burris leads the team with eight home runs, while Ashlinn Hamilton has driven in 38 runs.

 

The LCU pitching staff has a 3.52 ERA and has struck out 157 strikeouts in 280 innings. Opponents are hitting .258 against the Lady Chaps. Lexi Clark leads the staff with a 2.71 ERA and a 9-7 overall record. Clark has thrown four shutouts this season and has recorded 44 strikeouts.

The Belles are 17-8 all-time against the Lady Chaps. Earlier this season, the Rambelles won both games against the Lady Chaps in Lubbock, winning 9-3 and 4-3.

Midwestern State is 6-36 overall and is 4-28 in LSC play. The Mustangs are hitting .240 this season, averaging 2.7 runs per game. Chipper Mayorga leads the team with a .333 batting average and has driven in 19 runs.

The Mustangs' pitching staff has a 4.59 ERA and has struck out 118 strikeouts in 268.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .318 against the Mustangs. Kayleigh Bowers leads the team with a 3.48 ERA and has struck out 55 batters in 116.2 innings of work.  

The Belles are 49-22 all-time against MSU. They won both games earlier this season in Wichita Falls by 18-0 and 7-2 scorelines.
