Wall Sweeps Titles at District Track and Field Meet

 

WALL, TX — Wall fought off a strong challenge from Jim Ned to sweep the boys and girls titles Thursday at the District 6-3A Track and Field Meet.

The Lady Hawks won 10 events and scored 223 points to beat Jim Ned by 29 points, while the Hawks won six events and scored 215 points to hold off Jim Ned by 27 points.

Wall’s girls were led by Jaycee White and Emma Surber, who each won two events and ran on a gold-medal winning relay.

White claimed the titles in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and teamed with Kynlee Stevens, Hannah Quesada and Surber to win the 4x200 relay.

Surber won the 200 and long jump, and she was also a member of the second-place 4x100 relay with Marley Snowden, Stevens and Quesada.

Carsen Braden also brought home two gold medals with wins in the discus and shot put.

Wall’s other wins came from Emma Reel in the 1600, Hadley Kadlacek in the high jump, and from the 4x400 relay team of Stevens, Snowden, Quesada and Vaida Vasquez.

Second-place finishes for the Lady Hawks included Reel in the 3200, Allison Baird in the 800, Taryn Briley in the discus and Shyanne Floyd in the long jump.

Third-place showings included Gema Box in the 100 and 100 hurdles, Baird in the 1600, Lainey Bloodworth in the long jump, Sophia Fuchs in the pole vault and Floyd in the triple jump.

TLCA San Angelo’s Lilly Barnes won the 400 to highlight her school’s day. TLCA’s LaKailah Mason was second in the 200, while Ashlyn Height was second in the shot put.

The top four finishers in each event will advance to the area meet.

On the boys’ side, the Hawks were led by Bryson McFarden, who medaled in all five of his events. He won the high jump and was second in the long jump, triple jump and 400. He also helped the 4x400 relay team win, along with Evan Boehle, Hagyn Barbee and Reid Robertson.

Slayton Hallmark won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Jager Thompson won the 100, was second in the high jump and third in the long jump.

Wall also won the 4x200 relay with the team of Boehle, Robertson, Barbee and King.

The Hawks’ 4x100 relay of Gunner Garza, Robertson, Heath Surber and King was second.

Other second-place finishes included Garza in the 100, Gavin Sisson in the 110 hurdles, King in the 200, Braylon Nelson in the 800 and Koen Braden in the shot put.

Surber was third in the 400 and fourth in the long jump. Trey Jackson was third in the pole vault.

Grape Creek was third at the meet with 70 points and had a first-place showing from Josue Arellano in the shot put.

The Eagles also had third-place finishes from Derrick Sneed Jr. in the 110 hurdles, Julien Johnson in the 200, Gabe Santillan in the 300 hurdles and Joaquin Escamilla in the triple jump.

Grape Creek’s 4x100 relay of Santianna, Johnson, Ian Cochran and Leon Redman was third, while the Eagles’ 4x400 relay of Ashton Ortiz, Tony Ybarra, Randy Rodriguez and Nolan Thompson was also third.

TLCA’s Jackson Chacon had a gold medal in the discus, and he was fourth in the shot put.
