WALL, TX — The No. 8 Wall Lady Hawks suffered their second district defeat in 2026 in a ranked matchup against No. 11 Merkel on Friday night. The Lady Hawks lost 13-3.
Friday was a bit of a head scratcher for Lady Hawks' fans. Injuries and an off day led to a tough defeat at home. Wind and colder than usual temperatures affected the Lady Hawks as Wall surrendered several runs due to errors on defense against Merkel.
The Lady Badgers (20-3-1) took advantage of some walks and a few errors to take a commanding lead through the first four innings. It seemed like the Lady Hawks (21-4) looked away for one second to find that they were down 9-0.
Wall fought back in the 4th, scoring two runs, but could not figure out a way to generate enough offense to mount a serious comeback. The Lady Badgers scored four more in the final two innings to claim a 13-3 victory in Wall.
Kaimee Smith, Elise Jordan and Madee Williams generated all the offense for the Lady Hawks on Friday. Jordan batted two runs, while all three went 2-3 at the plate.
Williams pitched for Wall, allowing 14 hits and 13 runs. She added three strikeouts and four walks.
The Lady Hawks need to regroup as their schedule gets even rougher next week. Wall travels to Merkel next Tuesday for a rematch before traveling to No. 1 Coahoma next Thursday. A matchup that will likely have serious district title and playoff implications in the future.
